DuckDuckGo Ads Visibility extension for Firefox
DuckDuckGo Search ads are somewhat clearly marked by a small "AD" tag. This is fine, but I would prefer it to be more visible. This extension changes the background color of ads in the search result, making them completely unmistakable. Default collor is "weird yellow", but it is configurable.
Installation
Firefox (and forks)
From the official Add-ons store:
The extension is available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/duckduckgo-ads-visibility/
Just click Add to Firefox and accept the following requests
Manual installation (Why would you do this?):
- Download the latest release for Firefox from GitLab
- Open your browser's extension page (
about:addons) - Drag and drop the release file
Chromium (and other chromium bases browsers including Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi, ...)
From the official Add-ons store:
Google requires a 5$ fee to upload extensions. This extenstion is not worth 5$. Not coming anytime soon.
Manual installation:
- Download the latest release for Firefox from GitLab
- Open your browser's extension page (chrome://extensions/)
- Enable Developer Mode (top right), it allows you to install extensions that were not verified. You should only ever do this if you trust the developper of the extension.
- Drag and drop the release file
- Disable Developer Mode
Unlike in Firefox, the signature verification only needs to be disabled during the installation, preventing future attacker from exploiting it. You still shouldn't do it unless you trust the developer and know what you are doing.
